My latest tattoo, photo taken the day it was done.
It was inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I am a big fan of the impressionist movement and post impressionism, and Van Gogh’s amazing use of colour is some of the best of any artist. The lyric underneath is “In slow motion the blast is beautiful” which is from the song Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking by Snow Patrol. That lyric means a lot to me, I have ongoing battles with leukaemia and lupus, both of which have taken a lot from me and it is extremely easy for me to let myself get pulled down by it. But with all the bad has come a lot of good, these experiences have led me to the most important person in my life, it makes all the bad more than worth it. In a not so much nutshell, that is what the lyrics mean to me, if I take a moment to look at the big picture even the bad stuff is wonderful.
The two tattoo ideas were originally separate, but I decided to put the two together as I felt they really complemented each other, not just visually but Vincent Van Gogh led a very tortured life and he turned that pain into extreme beauty.
I plan to add more stars to it in the future.
It was done by Rachel Anne Aust at Liberty on Ponce in Atlanta, GA. This is the third tattoo she’s done for me, I love her work. She drew it free hand on me with sharpie as I wanted it to look as much like brush strokes as possible, I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
